Attention To All Microsoft Windows Users "XP Antivirus 2008", "XP Antivirus 2009" and "Antivirus 360" are fake antivirus programs which are referred to as "scareware/malware". These programs trick you into thinking there is a virus on your computer and then try to sell you another fake antivirus program that claims to fix all your problems. Under no circumstances should you ever give them your credit card number. These three are the most common, but there are many more fake antivirus programs with different names so be carefull what you download. Search google for more information and removal instructions.
ZTech Tips There is no magical program you can install on your computer to make is go faster. If your computer is slow the last thing you want to do is start installing more programs, especially free ones that you have downloaded from the internet. Computers are like automobiles, the lighter they are the faster they will go.
Virus software slows your computer down because it's constantly checking everything you do. On a fairly new computer you will not notice a big difference in speed, but on an older computer you will. A pentium 4 with 1gb or less of ram just does not have enough power to run the latest antivirus software.
A fresh installation of Windows with all updates, Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader and Adobe Flash Player is all most people will ever need installed on their computer. If you want to watch dvd's or other media VLC Player is amazing and free.
Speeding up your Windows XP computer (Vista is not much different) 1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, and open Add or Remove Programs. Look through the list and remove any programs that you do not need. If your not sure what to remove and what to keep just search the name of the program in google.
2. Click Start, Programs, and open the Startup Folder. Everything in this folder will start automatically with Windows. These are not the actual programs, but only shortcuts to them. Keep this folder empty by moving all shortcuts to the trash.
3. Click Start and open Microsoft Update. In the welcome screen click on the custom button. Make sure you have all of the latest High Priority, Software and Hardware updates.
